Does it matter what the amount of the mega pixels are for a digital camera?
I just want nice photos. So, I see 5 mega pixels, 6, 7.2, 8. Does it matter which it is? can you tell the difference in photo quality between the 5 and 8 mp? What would you sugjest?
I know people hate the “it all depends” type of answer, but that is what applies here. If you want to consistenly make large photos such as 11 x 14 or 16 x 20 or larger, then yes, you will want the higher MP count. If you plan to not go much above 8 x 10, a 5 megapixel will be just fine.
Keep in mind that with a point and shoot, the higher the mp number, usually the WORSE the photo will look at higher ISO because there are just too many tiny sensors crammed onto an already too small sensor.
The manufacturers know most people only equate “quality” with a MP number, so they keep cramming more and more on the sensor… when in many cases it does little to nothing to actually improve the quality of the photo… it just makes it bigger.
